Thank you for our best ever Open Day!

On Sunday 4 July, more than 6000 people visited our Breeding and Training Centre at Bald Hills to enjoy our biggest Open Day to date.

Under a glorious winter sun, thousands of families and supporters came from all over South East Queensland to wander through our grounds, watch our demonstrations and learn more about our Guide Dogs and services.

We parked more than 3,300 cars on site with hundreds of people also catching the train to Bald Hills.

Highlights included the Puppy Parade and a Guide Dog Training Demonstration which was choreographed to music and showed how disciplined our Guide Dogs are in avoiding distractions such as fluffy toys!

Brood 'Pippi' and her 'B' litter of puppies

Our 8-week-old  'B' litter of puppies, which is sponsored by 4BC 1116 Newstalk, stole the show when mum 'Pippi' and her brood of ten black Labrador babies arrived in a Guide Dogs van and proceeded to run and tumble their way around the arena.

Australian Idol finalist Chrislyn Hamilton brought her newly formed band and sang for almost 40 minutes to an appreciative crowd while the RAAF Military Dogs, Police Dogs,Australian Idol finalist Chrislyn Hamilton and her band Frisbee Dogs and  Dances with Dogs Club showed just how diverse and adaptable our canine friends can be.

Brisbane musicians Steve Sparrow and Jack Murphy performed a set after our Patron The Governor of Queensland Her Excellency Penelope Wensley AO cut Guide Dogs Queensland's 50th Birthday cake alongside our President Richard Anderson OAM.

Our Client Services team showed the latest equipment and electronic devices available in mobility aids and many people took the time to find out more about how important these services are to Queenslanders who are blind or have low vision.

It was prizes galore with winners of all the Kid's Colouring In Competition to be found here.
