Litters ready to benefit from Guide Dog Puppy Appeal - September 2009
Guide Dogs Queensland’s annual Puppy Appeal is underway in Brisbane and will raise funds to help several new arrivals at the Bald Hills Breeding and Training Centre start the Guide Dog journey. Each Spring, the association launches an appeal to raise funds specifically for puppies on the Guide Dog Training Program as it costs $30,000 to transform each one into the eyes of a Queenslander who is blind or vision impaired.
In perfectly timed arrivals, we have three new litters of puppies – amounting to ? puppies – and more on the way, ready to benefit from the Puppy Appeal, held across the State.
Brisbane shoppers can support the pups and find out how to sponsor them at unique Guide Dog Puppy Appeal merchandise stands set up in Brisbane’s major shopping centres. From September 10 to October 10, stalls will be held at Westfield Strathpine, Garden City, Chermside, North Lakes, Carindale, and at Centro Toombul, Aspley Hypermarket, Penninsula Fair and Redbank Plaza. More details on specific dates is available on our website www.guidedogsqld.com.au or by calling 1800 810 119.
GDQ’s Communications and Marketing Manager Donna Hurley said the stands were run by volunteers and offered our much sought-after Guide Dog “fluffy” puppies, towels, and Christmas cards, stationery; dog bowls and information about puppy sponsorship.
“All proceeds from the stalls goes toward the breeding and training of our new puppies. We also encourage interested supporters to find our more about becoming puppy sponsors of these precious pups.
“For as little as $21 a month, our puppy sponsors will realise the importance of their help through regular updates as their sponsored puppies and litters progress through the Guide Dog Training Program,“ Ms Hurley said.
“We receive no government funding for the breeding and training of our Guide Dogs which we provide at no cost, which is why our annual Puppy Appeal is so vital to the continued work of our association.”
