Guide Dog 'Tompson' gives Sam Powers the lick of approval - August 2010

Guide Dog-in-training ‘Tompson’ has flown to Cairns to give Magician Sam Powers the lick of approval before Sunday’s Xtreme Illusions Father’s Day Show.
Xtreme Illusions is a Las Vegas style grand illusion show, headlined by Mr Powers, who has performed in 16 countries, on TV before 10 million viewers and wowed stars like Elton John and Jamie Fox.
Sunday’s special Father’s Day Show starts at 5pm in the Velvet Underground room at the Reef Hotel Casino. All proceeds from the show will help Guide Dogs Queensland to continue to provide its services free of charge.
Mr Powers is an Ambassador for Guide Dogs Queensland and is helping to raise funds for the association as it celebrates its 50th Anniversary.
Guide Dogs Queensland Community Relations Officer Gillian Bolton said the association was proud of its history of providing services to Cairns’ residents who had low or no vision, and was delighted to have the support of a local identity.
“We continue to receive no government funding to breed and train our world-class Guide Dogs despite the difference they make to people who are blind or vision impaired,” Ms Bolton said.
“It is through the support of generous people like Sam, that we are able to continue to offer our services free of charge.”
Tickets to Sunday’s Xtreme Illusions Father’s Day Show cost $29 per person or $99 for a family (two adults and two children) and can be booked by phoning 1300 500 331.
