Nathan gets to $1000 with a little help from his friends - December 2010

8-year-old Nathan Bahr has finally reached his goal of raising $1000 for Guide Dogs Queensland after receiving a bonus cheque from McDonalds at Bracken Ridge. 8-year-old Nathan Bahr with McDonalds Franchisee Rod Chiapello
The Elimbah youngster has given up three birthdays and sold cupcakes on weekends to raise funds for the association and thanks to McDonalds Franchisee Rod Chiapello, he has reached his goal before turning nine.
Mr Chiapello said he wanted to help Nathan as the inspiring youngster had gone without presents for so long.
“I met Nathan earlier this year as part of the Quest Newspapers McDonalds Young Star program and he told me about his goal which I thought was a fairly big job” Mr Chiapello said.
“I said to him as an incentive, ‘If you get to $800, I’ll give you $200. We try to support Guide Dogs each year and we’re excited to help him as an individual in his quest while helping the association reach its goal of training Guide Dogs free of charge,” he said.
Meanwhile Nathan couldn't wait to present his cheque to GDQ having asked his friends and family to give donations instead of birthday presents since his 6th birthday.
“I’m very excited and I couldn't wait to see the look on Erin’s face from Guide Dogs when I gave her the cheque,” Nathan said.
And his next goal?
“I want to get $1 million, my mum’s saying no I don’t think we’ll get to that but I say - Give me a chance,” Nathan said.
