Staff at CBA pass the hat around for Guide Dogs - December 2010
A $10,000 gift from the staff at the Strathpine Branch of the Commonwealth Bank will help Guide Dogs Queensland provide the latest navigation equipment to children who are blind or vision impaired. The cheque was handed over to GDQ Chief Executive Officer Chris Laine on Friday, 3 December by branch manager Mark Broadhurst as part of the bank’s Community Grants Program.
The program is the Staff Community Fund’s major charitable initiative which aims to support youth and children’s activities.
Ms Laine said the donation would purchase ten Trekker Breeze units which were GPS systems used by people who were blind in conjunction with their Guide Dog or White Cane.
“The hand held GPS systems have been especially designed to give details about a person’ physical location with extra features built in. They improve a person’s ability to travel independently and will be introduced to children undertaking our orientation and mobility training,” Ms Laine said.
“We are extremely grateful to the staff at the Commonwealth Bank who set aside a donation from their pay each week in order to make this contribution,” she said.
