Workshop offers parents and kids tips on low vision - August 2010
Parents of children who are blind or have low vision are invited to learn about ways to empower their children at a free seminar in Hervey Bay on 18 August.
The Guide Dogs Queensland Family Seminar, to be held from 10am to 1pm at the Hervey Bay Neighbourhood Centre, 57 Taylor Street, Pialba, will provide parents with tips on how to help their children maintain their mobility without having to rely on them.
GDQ Orientation and Mobility instructors will outline the free services that are available and demonstrate how low vision aids and equipment can help keep them active.
The association has already run successful Family Seminars in Brisbane and Cairns, and will hold its first in Bundaberg on Monday, 16 August.
“Our Family Seminars are proving to be very popular and there is high demand for us to hold more,” GDQ Rehabilitation Services Manager Bashir Ebrahim OAM said.
“We have really enjoyed working with kids and their parents in Brisbane and Cairns and are excited to be travelling to Hervey Bay and Bundaberg to meet with new and existing clients.
“It is never too early, or late, for families to learn about the services and aids that are available to children who are blind or have low vision,” he said.
