Workshops offer expert advice on low vision - August 2010

If you or your child is struggling with low vision and a loss of independence, help is on its way.
Guide Dogs Queensland (GDQ) will run free seminars in Bundaberg next week to check your vision and provide advice on what tools and training are available to keep you mobile.
A team of Instructors from Brisbane will hold an Assessment Unit and Family Seminar at the YMCA in Quinn Street from 3.30pm to 5.30pm on Monday, 16 August.
The Family Seminar is an ideal opportunity for parents of children who are blind or have low vision to find out about services and low vision aids that are available to their children.
“Our family seminars are proving to be very popular and there is high demand for us to hold more,” GDQ Rehabilitation Services Manager Bashir Ebrahim OAM said.
“We have really enjoyed working with kids and their parents in Brisbane and Cairns and are excited to be travelling to Bundaberg to meet with new and existing clients.”
While the instructors are in Bundaberg they will also hold a Low Vision Clinic and City Travel Day on Tuesday, 17 August.
“We have a regional office in Bundaberg and provide a range of training and support services to hundreds of residents who are blind or have low vision,” Mr Ebrahim said.
“As a statewide organisation, it’s important for our instructors to be in the regions meeting with clients and providing specialist advice”.
The City Travel Day will provide people with low or no vision with the skills needed to navigate Bundaberg’s CBD. Participants will explore the CBD and discover more about city landmarks and features.
