Fundraising Ideas

Guide Dogs Queensland gets supported by people from all walks of life and everyone has a different idea of how they can help out.

We receive less than seven per cent in government funding for some specific fee-for-service rehabilitation programs and nothing for our Guide Dog breeding and training or services across regional and rural Queensland.

The support we receive through the fundraising efforts of individuals, schools, organisations and businesses is vital to the ongoing delivery of our life-changing services to Queenslanders who are blind or have low vision.

It’s not just about the donations either, your help in spreading the word about Guide Dogs Queensland and the services we provide is just as important and appreciated.

Below is a list of ideas on how to fundraise, but remember the most important rule is to make sure you add the “FUN” in fundraising!

There is government legislation; however, that requires people raising money to hold a Letter of Authorisation issued by the organisation they are helping. This applies to individuals, groups, workplaces or organisations. GDQ can issue these letters once we approve your event or activity.

If any of the ideas below inspire you, or if you have your own great idea, then we’d love to hear from you. To notify us of your intention to fundraise, please contact our Fundraising Department on Free Call 1800 007 460 or email pawknock@guidedogsqld.com.au.

    • Go online to create your own “Hero Page” for an event or challenge;
    • Hold a quiz night, morning tea or themed function with gold coin donations, penalties, guessing competitions and raffles;
    • Add an auction or raffle to an existing event;
    • Get people to sponsor you for a sporting event or challenge;
    • Join one of our Bingo games held throughout Queensland. Contact your regional office to find out what’s on in your local area;
    • Mufti Day – i.e. bad taste tie day is a favourite in workplaces; or
    • Find out about our workplace giving program.

The best advice we can give you is keep it simple, make it fun and ask around. See what types of events and ideas your friends and family think work and would like to support.
