    Guide Dog Training

    At the start of the Guide Dog training program, each dog is allocated to a trainer who spends the first few weeks bonding and developing the dog’s response to a number of commands, instructions and prompts. In the beginning most of the dog’s training takes place on site at the Bald Hills Breeding and Training Centre.

    Guide Dog Mobility

    Before taking on a Guide Dog, clients must be able to use a long cane and have received mobility training. Our Guide Dogs are selected to carefully match each client's lifestyle and travel needs. Our Guide Dogs, and their training, like all of our services, are provided to Queenslanders free of charge.

    Raise A Puppy

    Being a Puppy Raiser is one of our most rewarding volunteer roles! GDQ needs regular volunteers to love and care for our puppies from about 10 weeks of age and until about 12 to 14 months of age when they are old enough to begin Guide Dog training.

    Guide Dogs provide Queenslanders who are vision impaired with a safe means of independent travel. Guide Dogs and Guide Dog Users’ right to enter public places – including shops, hotels, motels, restaurants, as well as taxis, buses and trains, are protected by law.
