Board a Guide Dog-in-training

Guide Dogs Queensland is looking for boarding homes for our Guide Dogs-in-training to have 'sleep overs'.

We need families, couples or individuals who live within the vicinity of  our Guide Dog Breeding and Training Centre at 1978 Gympie Road, Bald Hills, to offer a temporary home to our adult dogs of between 12 months and 24 months of age.

These dogs live in our kennels and are undergoing training as Guide Dogs. Every day our Guide Dogs-in-training are trained by our Guide Dog trainers both on site and out in the community, and currently live permanently in our kennels. In a bid to provide a break from the kennels, however, we are looking for people who are interested in having one of our Guide Dogs-to-be in their home overnight and on weekends.  As a boarder you would have the dog in your home and drop him/her off to the centre by 8am each day. You would then collect the dog from 4pm and take him/her home to spend the night in the comfort and enjoyment of your home. The dog would also be able to stay with you on weekends providing that was suitable.

This volunteer role as a 'Boarding Carer' would suit anyone who lived within 20-30 minutes of Bald Hills and was able to provide a safe and secure boarding experience. We would also prefer homes which do not have other dogs, however, this can be considered on a case-by-case basis.

 This opportunity is a way of providing support to our Guide Dog Training Program while enjoying the companionship of one of our delightful, well behaved and highly intelligent Guide Dogs-in-training.  As our dogs are accustomed to living indoors, the stayover would require the dog to be kept within the home at night.  All food and bedding will be supplied and you will receive advice from our team in regard to how to accommodate and handle the dog in your care.
