Veterinary Support

Guide Dogs Queensland has a permanent part-time veterinarian who manages the health of our Guide Dog colony.

Our vet supplies on-site veterinary services to our colony at Bald Hills and all dogs that are within travelling distance of the Centre.  All surgery, major medical cases and hospitalised patients continue to be referred externally. 

Agreement with Vetwell and Greencross Vets

Guide Dogs Queensland also has an agreement with with Vetwell Veterinary clinics and Greencross Vets to provide uniform discounted services to Guide Dogs beyond the reach of our Centre.  This means our Breeding Stock, Guide Dog puppies and Guide Dogs-in-training are able to access clinics and take advantage of discounted services.

The Agreement also offers to provide services to Guide Dog clients for their Guide Dogs - where they have access to a Vetwell or Greencross clinic anywhere in Queensland. Where clients do not have acess to an affiliated clinic, Vetwell and Greencross will help to locate a local veterinary surgery that will provide a similar level of service and discount benefit.

Our Veterinary procedures are managed by Queensland Veterinary Specialists (QVS) at West Chermside - this is a Vetwell clinic.

In Kind Support

IDEXX Laboratories supports GDQ by providing Veterinary Pathology services free of charge.  IDEXX processes all our blood, urine and faecal tests for dogs in Breeding, Kennels and Training. They continue this support by giving clients free pathology testing for qualified Guide Dogs in the field. Their veterinary assistance is invaluable.
