Guide Dogs Queensland was home to some of our younger clients over the school holidays as they joined us from all around the state for a paw-some kid’s camp.
The week was jam-packed with activities to enrich their learning through cooking, shopping, paddle boarding, visiting a theme park and even getting a special visit from a Guide Dog puppy!
Our Orientation and Mobility Specialists worked one-on-one with the children, incorporating fun activities to help build their mobility skills and teach them to develop their other senses to increase their confidence and independence.
Client Services Team Leader Vickie Anderson said the camps always proved to be incredibly worthwhile for the children and their families.
“The children arrived with a smile on their face and they left with an even bigger one,” she said.
“After learning skills like how to use a long cane and techniques to help them do things like safely cross the road, we really saw a great improvement in the kids both in terms of their ability and their confidence, which is what this is all about.”
