Meet three of Guide Dogs Queensland’s newest life members, who all share the passion for helping others.

Guy and Wendy

Guy and Wendy say they ‘fell into volunteering’ with Guide Dogs Queensland, but they just as quickly fell in love with it.

The couple attended an Open Day event where they attended a presentation about Puppy Raising, but quickly learned of many other ways they could be involved. It’s something they have done now for many years.

“I love driving the bus, picking up clients from the airport and bringing them to Guide Dogs,” Guy explained. “It’s something truly special to witness children and their families coming to Guide Dogs for a camp and they are quiet and nervous, but at the end of the camp, they are chatty and telling me how amazing the experience has been.”

If the pair aren’t caring for a Guide Dog in their own home, or helping transport clients, they are often spotted around Brisbane hosting merchandise stalls.

“It is so wonderful to be part of this community and family that is Guide Dogs. We know the little bit we do really does make a difference, and that’s very special for both of us,” Wendy said.

Alan

Alan was so humbled to receive Life Membership that he couldn’t find the words to express his feelings. But he could find a way with his beautiful drawings.

Alan, a dedicated volunteer and fundraiser, who has only been sketching for a few years created a beautiful masterpiece that is now on display at Guide Dogs.

“I selected this image as, in my opinion, it best characterises the enthusiasm and determination constantly demonstrated by the Guide Dogs staff and canines.”

Alan has helped raise a number of Guide Dog puppies and raise even more donations.
