It’s not easy to say goodbye to your pup as they move onto the next stage of their im-paw-tant journeys.

Trainee Support Dog Ruffle sits with six of his puppies and their Puppy Raisers.

A couple of weeks ago we held a special Next Steps event to celebrate all the pups who are starting their formal training and the wonderful Puppy Raisers who have made their journeys paw-sible. Most of these Puppy Raisers have spent the past 15 months helping their pups to build the foundations they need to grow into life-changing Guide Dogs.

Puppy Raising takes a lot of generosity and dedication, and saying goodbye to the pup you have spent so much time with is no easy feat.

For Puppy Raiser Julie Dainty, the saying goodbye to puppy ‘Lexie’ is all part of a very special journey.

“It’s a very rewarding thing to do and having that satisfaction of seeing them do things that they’ve been taught to do and you say oh I helped her to learn that!”

Hopefully this start will help her to get through to the end to become someone’s right hand and eyes.”
