In line with our theme for International Guide Dog Day “Guide Dogs can go anywhere”, we recognised outstanding organisations around the state that have ensured their facilities were accessible and their staff welcoming and inclusive of Guide Dog Handlers.
Organisations around the state were nominated for their positive contribution based on feedback from local clients and Guide Dogs staff.
The organisations that were recognised include:
- Yellow Cabs in Brisbane
- Sunbus in Cairns and on the Sunshine Coast
- Duffy’s City Buses in Bundaberg
- GoldLinQ on the Gold Coast
- Toowoomba Regional Council
- Townsville Taxis
Local events were held across the state around International Guide Dog Day, where these organisations were presented with a certificate of recognition from a Guide Dog Handler on behalf of Guide Dogs Queensland to thank them for their efforts.
When organisations make the effort to be truly accessible, the lives of working Guide Dog Teams are much easier, leading to a greater sense of independence and confidence when using these services.
We thank everyone for their contribution to help make the lives of our Guide Dog Handlers around the state a bit easier by ensuring they’re always welcome in their community.
