A woman is standing with her black Guide Dog in parkland

As we celebrate International Guide Dog Day on 27 April 2016, we recognise the incredible partnership between Guide Dogs and their blind and vision impaired handlers.

The bond between a Guide Dog and its handler is one that most of us will never experience, but one that we can all appreciate.

We hope you enjoy this poem that recognises the impact a Guide Dog can make in the life of someone who is blind or vision impaired each and every day.

Seeing Through the Dark

My life walks

On four paws

He isn’t very tall

But his heart is

As big as a tree

He is loyal to me

Doesn’t place any blame

He won’t lead me astray

He always shows me the way

There isn’t anything he needs to say

He loves without any doubt

He won’t leave me alone

To fend on my own

He will always be there

And he takes good care

He is my life

He is my sight

Without my dog

I couldn’t get around

My life walks

On four paws
