Disability Services Minister Coralee O’Rourke visited our Bald Hills Breeding and Training Centre last month to see firsthand how our service helps blind and vision impaired Queenslanders.
The Minister learned more about our services in the community for counselling, support and orientation and mobility in addition to our Guide Dog services.
Community education is an important step in assisting Guide Dog handlers to be more accepted in their travels. Although instances of discrimination against handlers are quite low in Queensland, we want everyone to make our handlers feel welcome when they work in the community.
We thank the Minister and the Queensland Government for their commitment to help promote this message to the community so everyone knows Guide Dogs and qualified service dogs really can go anywhere.
