It takes hours of training commitment and hard work to help every extraordinary dog become a Guide Dog, so being a Guide Dog Trainer is no walk in the park!

Our newly qualified Guide Dog Trainer Jason has just completed his cadetship and says that there’s no better feeling than knowing you’re changing lives one paw at a time.

“I wanted to become a Guide Dog Trainer because it combines my two passions – helping people and dogs,” Jason said.

“You can’t help but love what you do when you get to come to work every day and work with such amazing animals.”

CEO Dan English said it was great to see another staff member build their skills and take on an exciting new opportunity.

“Jason’s been with us for the last 10 years and it’s been great to see his dedication to developing his skills to take on the special role of a Guide Dog Trainer,” Dan said.

“I know we can expect some great things from Jason and I look forward to continuing to have him as part of our team to train the next generation of Guide Dogs.”

Being a Guide Dog Trainer sees Jason help our dogs gain the skills they need to help Queenslanders who are blind or vision impaired live full and active lives.

“We do a lot of work out and about in all kinds of different environments like the city, shopping centres and busy traffic areas, where our dogs learn all the basic guiding skills they need to be successful Guide Dogs,” Jason said.

“It’s a very proud moment seeing a dog complete their training and go on to work with a blind or vision impaired handler – it feels like all the hard work from everyone involved in the dog’s journey has paid off.

“It’s a good feeling knowing that I’m helping to change someone’s life.”

We wish Jason all the best as he begins a career that will see him help to transform many lives.
