Did you know that more than 50% of Australians with Glaucoma are unaware they have the disease?
Glaucoma is the leading cause of irreversible blindness worldwide. If detected early, Glaucoma is one of the most treatable eye diseases, but worryingly it often has no symptoms until some eye sight is already lost.
This World Glaucoma Week (12-18 March) we encourage you to take control of your eye health and make an appointment to have your eyes checked.
You can visit your local optometrist for a check up, or attend one of our free Vision Assessment Clinics held around the state. Click here to view our calendar and find out when we’ll be holding our next clinic near you.
While it’s important for everyone to be vigilant about Glaucoma, you may have a higher risk of developing the disease if you:
- Are severely far or short sighted
- Are aged over 50
- Have a family history of glaucoma
- Have high blood pressure
- Suffer from diabetes
- Have had an eye injury
Remember, early detection is key. Take action to protect yourself against the effects of glaucoma today.
