A new app is changing the world for blind and vision impaired people by allowing them to see through their phones.

We’ve been trialling the Aipoly app, which uses artificial intelligence to understand what the camera is seeing and then describes what it is out loud.

For example, if you opened the app and had your phone camera pointed towards a tree, the app would recognise what this is and say “tree” out loud.

The app can have some funny mishaps or even say “I don’t know” if it’s not sure what is in front of you. Users are encouraged to provide feedback to help improve the app by teaching it to recognise a wider range of objects.

The app is currently available for iOS devices and can be downloaded from the App Store, with an Android version due to be released shortly.

If you would like more information on this app or other technologies available to aid life with a vision impairment, please contact our Client Services team on (07) 3500 9060.
